Masterclass with Brad Shepik
Details
The LJGS is pleased to present a masterclass with one of New York's finest guitarists and teachers, Brad Shepik.
Brad will be in the UK for a short run of gigs - his first as a leader here since 2015. He performs at Jazzlive at The Crypt in Camberwell on Friday 9 August (see separate event here on the Meetup page). This is Brad's only masterclass in the UK this year.
Raised in Seattle (where he studied with the legendary guitarist and composer Ralph Towner) and resident in New York City since 1990, Brad Shepik has led groups at most of the major American and European festivals and clubs. His sideman credits extend to over 70 recordings and include influential collaborations with Paul Motian (Electric Bebop Band), Dave Douglas (Tiny Bell Trio), Charlie Haden (Liberation Music Orchestra), Joey Baron, Jochen Rueckert and Mark Turner.
An in-demand musician, Brad's current projects include Rambler (with Chris Cheek and Ben Monder), the Brad Shepik Organ Trio (with Gary Versace and Mark Ferber), Jamie Baum's Septet+, The Balkan Peppers and many others.
In addition to his talents as a performer and composer, he is much in demand as a teacher and is a long-standing professor on New York University's jazz programme, where his influence is heard in a number of rising talents on the American jazz scene.
The cost for the masterclass is £20 payable in advance - this site is set up to ask for payment via PayPal when you RSVP. We are able to offer a student rate of £15 for this event. If you wish to claim the student rate, please send me a private message to make arrangements.
You are encouraged to bring your instruments (no need for amps). There is no fixed agenda for the masterclass, though Brad will have some handouts to give us a starting point. We can talk about whatever you want to ask and hopefully have some playing.
We have the room until 4.30pm, so we'll break it up into two parts with a break in the middle.
