Please note that it is free to become a member in this group and there is a 'pay as you go' charge for each event or activity in order to ensure sustainability.
Each event's fee goes towards meet-up app & platforms fees, venues hire cost around central London as this group operates, organising & hosting costs.

Make the most of a Saturday morning departure flight to a Monday evening return one, treating yourself to a wonderful August Bank Holiday! Stay longer if you wish & explore further one of Europe's oldest and most underrated capitals!

Immerse yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of Sofia, the charming capital city of Bulgaria, a fine blend of an emerging Balkan metropolis, where Eastern Europe meets the west, home to numerous historical and cultural sites, from the Roman, Ottoman and Byzantine times that can be discovered and explored, perfectly well and mainly on foot!

Wander around the stunning imposing buildings of the former Soviet era, visit the largest iconic cathedral in the heart of the city and Sofia's main open market for authentic local vibes, indulge in traditional Bulgarian cuisine, shop unique hand crafted gifts.

Come on your own or with bring a friend along, enjoy travelling in a friendly group setting with other travel companions or perhaps take some precious 'me' time if you will and catch up later for dinner! Enjoy conversations, create connections, make memories!

Indicative itinerary :

Saturday, 29th August: Meeting-up and ready to discover Sofia! Stroll around Vitosha Boulevard right in the city centre with the lively open air bars and restaurants. Enjoy a delicious dinner with a local flare! Walk through the uncovered remnants of a 2,000-year-old Roman city, located right inside and around the Serdica complex metro station.

Sunday, 30th August : Optional day trip to visit Plovdiv, the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe, set among picturesque hills. You’ll stroll along one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets, explore the beautifully preserved Revival-era Old Town and marvel at the impressive Roman Theatre. A knowledgeable local guide will lead a guided tour and bring the city’s fascinating past to life as you move through these highlights.
After the tour, enjoy free time to discover Plovdiv at your own pace. You may relax in a café, browse local shops or simply wander the charming streets and be immersed in the atmosphere.

Monday, 31st August : Starting up with an optional guided walking tour to find out about the beauty and hidden gems of Sofia by a local guide. Amongst them one of the most imposing and largest Orthodox churches in the world, St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, St Sofia church, from which the city was named after.

Stay longer you wish (further arrangements can be made for you) and have fun discovering the bohemian cafes, bars and restaurants in Kvartal Art district, the old Jewish quarter of Sofia, the Museum of Socialist Art,

It you would like to have an extra day, an optional day trip to the beautiful and historical town of Rila monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site is highly recommended.
