A Practical Introduction to Internet of Things, Part 1

Details

This Meetup will cover the basics of Internet of Things from a practical perspective. By the end of this meetup you will have programmed a WiFi chip to read temperature and humidity data from a sensor and send the data over the network to a remote client that will graph the data. The class will be taught on the ESS/IoT workstations to familiarize attendees with the stations.

The WiFi chip is the ESP8266. We will cover the basics of JSON, MQTT (a communication protocol used in IoT) and libraries in Python and Arduino for working with JSON and MQTT.

The cost of the class includes a set of parts that you will take home with you, a Sparkfun Thing dev board that contains the ESP8266, a USB connector, the temperature/humidity sensor, and a small breadboard.

The cost for non-Tinkermill members is $100.
