TinkerMill is located in Longmont, Colorado and is the largest makerspace in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region with about 800 contributing members across our multi-shop 13,000 sq ft space. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity whose exceptionally talented membership provides a community workshop supporting each other and other community entities by learning, teaching, collaborating and creating. We are deeply involved in Longmont’s economic development efforts and encourage new product and business creation through mentoring and onsite office and workshop space. We are leaders in our community and powerful advocates for entrepreneurial spirit, science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

About the Talk:
Mother Road Revisited is a MFA thesis project in Photography and Printmaking. For this work, Slater traveled the length of Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica in a vintage 1964 Shasta trailer, retracing locations featured in 1920s postcards and rephotographing them as they appear today. Along the way, Slater met unforgettable characters and collected stories that became an important part of the journey. This presentation explores the inspiration behind the project, the creation of the artwork, and the experience of documenting a century of change along America's most iconic highway.
About our Speaker:
N. Slater is an artist, author, speaker, educator, and User Experience Designer whose work bridges creative practice and technology. Holding an MFA in Photography and Printmaking and having taught at the university level, they are passionate about teaching, mentorship, and helping others discover their own creative voice.When not designing digital experiences for a large agriculture company, N. can be found making art, playing drums, writing, and spending time with their partner and two dogs. They believe creativity thrives through curiosity, learning, and sharing knowledge, and they are always excited to explore new ideas and make meaningful work.
