At 8.30pm on Saturday, March 29, 2014, hundreds of millions of people across the globe will
switch off ALL NON ESSENTIAL LIGHTS of homes and businesses for one hour – Earth Hour, the world’s largest
public environmental action – acknowledging a commitment to go beyond the hour with
actions that benefit the planet in the year ahead.
The second-to-last and last weekend of March is around the time of the Spring and Autumn equinoxes in the northern and southern hemispheres respectively, which allows for near coincidental sunset times in both hemispheres, thereby ensuring the greatest visual impact for a global ‘lights out’ event. Earth Hour 2014 will be held on Saturday 29 March between 8.30PM and 9.30PM in your local time zone.
Earth Hour is not just for one hour. It’s about making a commitment to ongoing change that reduces your impact on the environment year-round.
