Join us in welcoming 2010 in a meaningful and mindful way with a NEW YEAR?S CEREMONY in the Tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. In the Buddhist tradition, the transition to a New Year is a wonderful time to let go of our past?our anger, sadness, and resentment; renew and ground ourselves in the present moment?forgive, love and accept ourselves and each other as we truly are; and develop our positive aspirations for the future?a firm determination to learn ways to transform our suffering, deepen our practice, and help build a society in which there is time to enjoy and care for nature, smile to each other, and bring happiness to and care for one another.

As in previous years, we will begin at 6:00 P.M. with sitting and walking meditation, followed by guided meditations and rituals to celebrate the passing of the year 2009 and the beginning of 2010. These rituals, developed in Plum Village by Zen Master Th?ch Nhất Hạnh, are done with the intention of facilitating our ability to ground ourselves firmly in the present moment, so we can recognize our spiritual roots, express gratitude for the gifts we have received, let go of the past, renew ourselves, and hone and develop our positive aspirations for the future.

After the ceremony, at about 8:00 P.M., we invite you and your significant others to join us for tea, healthy vegetarian treats, and warm friendship.
  • Feel free to bring offerings of flowers, fruit, and tea to be placed in the altar for the ceremony, as well as any other non-alcoholic beverages of your choice, a healthy vegetarian dish, dessert, or treat you wish to share with the Sangha.
  • Please remember to bring whatever utensils are needed to cut and serve your particular dish.
  • In order to be kind to the Earth Mother, please also bring your own non-disposable teacup and utensils.
