RE: [Mid-Island-Pilots-Club-Email] A Memorial Day Message

a nice piece, several worthwhile sentiments expressed—just about all shared by me.

it is the last line that intrigued me.

i heard Fmr Ambassador John Bolton, ending an interview with someone on Fox News, say ‘Happy Memorial Day’

the words haunted me.

i wondered if he wanted to kick himself after that?

and ever since, i’ve been trying to come up with parting words to substitute.

y’know how folks say ‘have a good day’; someone changed that to ‘make today a good one’—i like that too.

so what can one say in maybe three or four words on a day like this?

have a memorial day?

bye, and take time to reflect on today? (too many words...)

am i the only one to be disturbed at ‘happy memorial day’ or ‘have a fantastic holiday’?  (yes, i understand and appreciate steve’s thoughts.

does anyone have the words i’m looking for?

since this club is over gross with smart people,  i am hoping one of you does...

take time to reflect on those who have made it possible for us to

have a fantastic holiday.

Subject: [Mid-Island-Pilots-Club-Email] A Memorial Day Message

Memorial Day marks the beginning of the summer season, a time for celebration, a time when the senses reawaken to the joy of life.  In the midst of our partying, time to time we are reminded in somber tones that this is a day of remembrance for those who had sacrificed their lives to defend and protect a phenomenon in this world known as The United States Of America, a country unlike any other.  Well, anyone observing me this weekend won't be likely to see me at any time with my head bowed in mourning, yet this would not be out of disrespect or indifference.  I prefer to hold my head up high in appreciation and celebrate the accomplishments that our fallen veterans have helped to provide for us.  Still, this is a day of remembrance and as such, I've taken a bit of time to ponder about all the human beings who have directly and indirectly benefitted me to make my life a little better in countless ways.  Among the people in my thoughts are certainly the members of this group and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for being the unique individuals that you are and for allowing me the pleasure of getting to know you.

Wishing everyone a fantastic holiday!
