Join Madison Women in Tech for our second annual panel on tech and public speaking! We're excited to be co-hosting it this year with the Madison Web Design & Development Meetup.

We'll be discussing ...

  • The benefits of conference-speaking (and how to sell it to your supervisor!)
  • How to brainstorm topics you could speak about
  • Determining which kind of speaking experience is a good fit for you
  • What the submission process is like
  • And more!

If there's time, anyone interested can write a sample talk pitch and get feedback from fellow attendees.

PANELISTS

# Beth Tucker Long

Beth Tucker Long is a PHP developer and an organizer of the Madison PHP and Madison Web Design & Development groups. You can find her on Twitter (@e3betht) or on her blog (http://www.alittleofboth.com). Beth is a firm believer in promoting community and mentoring. She runs Treeline Design, a web development company, and Playlist Event Music, a DJ company, along with her husband, Chris.

# Amy Unger

The granddaughter of a former MIT computer (yup, that was a job title), Amy was clearly supposed to be a programmer, but just did not get the message. Her wanderings have taken her through the land of libraries and archives and into software consulting. Now a software engineer at Heroku, she is deeply grateful for every scarce day she does not use vim commands in Google Docs.

# Hilary Stohs-Krause (WiT co-organizer)

Hilary Stohs-Krause is currently based in Madison, WI, working as a full-stack software developer at Ten Forward Consulting. She came to tech by way of childhood website-building (a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fansite, to be exact). She volunteers regularly with several tech and community organizations, and tweets at @hilarysk.

DETAILS

As we're co-hosting this with an all-genders meetup, everyone is welcome (including men). Though we won't have any specific activities for them, babes in arms, youth and teens are also welcome.
