SEPTEMBER 21 MAIN LINE WRITERS GROUP - A Stronger Outline for a Stronger Story
Wednesday, SEPTEMBER 21, 2016
A Stronger Outline for a Stronger Story Whether you're a plotter, a ”pantser" or somewhere in-between, an outline can make your story stronger while making your writing life easier. Many writers think of an outline as either too daunting or too stifling but, if done correctly, it can be a powerful addition to your writing toolkit. During this session, Gabriela will teach you how to create a strong, flexible outline that's custom-designed for your style, your process, and your story. You'll leave knowing how to use your outline to perfect your plot, deepen your characters and guide your story from draft to done.
Presenter Gabriela Pereira earned her MFA from The New School in New York. While undercover as a graduate student, she learned the inside scoop on MFA programs, invented a slew of writing tools all her own, and developed a new, more effective way for writers to learn their craft. Now she wants to share this discovery and help writers around the world get the “knowledge without the college.
She taught several writing courses in New York City at organizations like: 826NYC, Everybody Wins, EHTP, and a local writing workshop she built from the ground up. Gabriela now teaches exclusively at DIY MFA, and she continues to speak and lead workshops at national and international writing conferences, both online and off. Gabriela's book about DIY MFA is scheduled for release in Spring 2016 from Writer’s Digest Books.
Our meeting place is Michael's Restaurant Deli in King of Prussia, just north of The King of Prussia Mall on Rt 202. The address is 130 Town Center Road in King of Prussia, 610-265-3265. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 pm but many of us come early (around 6) to eat and socialize a bit - but you can order your meal at any time during the meeting. We use a private room and the acoustics are great. You'll have no problem hearing our speakers or each other.
Just a reminder that you can order a scrumptious meal at Michael's off their extensive menu. We don't get charged for the great room, but Michaels does have the expectation that attendees will order a meal. It is a fair expectation and the meals are very reasonably priced. PURCHASING YOUR MEAL IS A REQUIREMENT.
Mark your calendar for every third Wednesday of the month. Feel free to tell others and bring a friend or two.
This is a membership based group. Annual dues are $36 and cover a variety of expenses including web site hosting, Meetup administration fees (you get the service free but I pay for them), the equipment, batteries, printing, guest speaker meals, etc. You are invited to attend one meeting for $8 as a sample, to see whether it is a fit for you. If you decide to pay the annual dues at that time, you are credited the $8 on the dues. You can also pay your dues online.
As usual, any questions, please contact me, Gary Zenker, at 610-883-2346 or GaryZenker@aol.com. We are all looking forward to seeing you there.
