- See the Space - Open to All
This tour takes about 45 minutes. Please be on time and ring the doorbell when you arrive.
This is for anyone interested in Makespace to come and look around! If you think you'd like to become a member or perhaps use Makespace for an event then come and see the space, equipment and meet a few members!
We're looking to better understand what motivates people like yourself to visit and join Makespace; could you take a minute and answer three questions regarding your projects and Makespace?
Please paste this link into your browser (it's a Google form):
- Makespace Database Admins
This meeting is for active Makespace members only. Please RSVP to the waitlist, the organiser will admit you to the meeting.
Come and help make the running of Makespace easier for the benefit of all members! Open to any current member of Makespace.
During these meetings we discuss and work on changes and enhancements to the database and associated IT systems used to provide services to members.
If you already have just a tiny bit of experience with databases or web development this may be the perfect arena for you to extend and improve those skills and learn from other members of the Makespace community.
- Maintenance hackathon - Make a tool cabinet
Makespace is what you make it.
An informal members night dedicated to working on projects to improve Makespace.
Over the next few weeks we will hack this event to be building a cabinet to store handtools. Spaces for this are limited to 5 people due to space restrictions and tool availability. You will be placed on the waiting list and I will move you to the attending list once you confirm you can attend more than one session.
Also feel free to get in touch if you want to come along and watch or work on a project that doesn't use the workshop as there is no restrictions on numbers for those
- Raspberry Pi
Bring along a project you're working on, or join in with whatever else is going on. It's a good plan to bring your laptop, if you have one.
We got contact to voluntary startup organisation with aim to citizen control of the environment - beginning with small river. In first station they use raspberry pi + pico. Contacts of experts and enthusiast very welcome.
- CAD Club
CAD club is an informal meet up for anyone interested in CAD. You can show off your projects, come along for help and advice, or just to learn more about it. We typically meet in the Makespace classroom, but also connect to the Zoom call for those who are not able to attend in person. There is no formal host, just a friendly group of Makespace members who regularly attend and will make you feel welcome. We use various parametric CAD programs. Whatever you use the same general design principles apply so you should gain some useful tips and tricks from whatever other attendees are sharing.
If you missed the online sessions we ran during lockdown you can catch up on YouTube here:
Session 1: Intro to SOLIDWORKS modelling. https://youtu.be/LgrjEA7_qzg
Session 2: Exploring how to choose which constraints to define, using equations and global variables and a look at appearances and materials. https://youtu.be/1mF1JkZtA1g
Session 3: Deriving parts from a base part and using configurations and design tables to make variations of a part. https://youtu.be/k8jL6-IPlFs
Session 4: We looked at combining and subtracting parts, modelling curved surfaces which match across different parts. https://youtu.be/hBRHBlC6ad4
Session 5: We looked at modelling threads in SOLIDWORKS and making hose adapters to 3D print. https://youtu.be/xAkDLZEA4Do
Note: The CAD Club has worked with Dassault Systemes (the parent company behind SOLIDWORKS ) to enable Makespace members to have free access to an Educational Use license of SOLIDWORKS! These enable you to install SOLIDWORKS Student edition on your own device, so you can do your CAD modelling in or away from Makespace. If you would like to obtain a license in advance so you can have the software installed and set up, please fill in this form: https://cad-club.makespace.org/solidworks
It typically takes a few days for me to get verification of your active Makespace membership and to send out the emails, so the earlier you fill in the form the better. Once you get the license, prepare for a download of around 3GB of data, so plan ahead if you want to have it installed in time for the live session.
For more, see http://cad-club.makespace.org and join the CAD Club email group.
- Monthly Members' Social Night!
Makespace's regular members' social before the Members' Meeting.
If you have a recent build or project you would like to show, please bring it or some photos along.
A great chance to meet members new and old, chat about your latest project, or find someone who can help you make it. There will be food and drink but additional contributions are a quick route to popularity. An old Makespace tradition holds that new members should bring cake :-)
If you are a newer Makespace member, we really recommend these nights as a way to get involved and see what's going on at Makespace.
- Member's Meeting
Do you have a good idea that can make Makespace better? Have you ever wondered how Makespace works? This is the meeting for all members who want know how we are progressing, raise new ideas and discuss where we should be heading in the future.

What's going on in the various clubs and areas.
Get support for a new piece of equipment you think we need.
