Bringing biological and medical innovations to market

Speaker: Alexander Edwards

Dr Alexander Edwards is Associate Professor in Biomedical Technology at the University of Reading and co-founder of Capillary Film Technology Ltd, a healthtech startup company that aims to commercialise Micro Capillary Film immunoassay technology for diagnostic applications.
Dr Edwards has a background in fundamental immunology combined with expertise in biochemical engineering, leading research between academic technology and industrial development. One of his focus includes solving current and future healthcare challenges, particularly on the development of affordable microfluidics for clinical diagnostics and microbiology.

About the event: The events explore what the future challenges are in the (red, green, white and blue) biotech and medtech sectors and how you take ideas/research to market in these sectors?
Hear from founders where they got the idea, what and who’s problem they want to solve, what motivated them to start a company and how they are navigating the process from concept to product? Be ready to be inspired!

Biology Club: The Biology Club brings together scientists, engineers, technologists, entrepreneurs, teachers, artists and others interested in engineering with biology at Makespace.
The Club has talks, social sessions and hands-on practicals or skill-sharing sessions (yes -we have even found some biology and making you can do at home!). If you want to work on biology-related projects, Biomakespace is the section of Makespace for that. It contains experimental biology and fabrication tools focused on scientific
applications.

This is an online event. Please find the link to join, below.
