Interested in organising a future debate?

Hi there

Set up just 3 months ago, Manchester Debate Group is really starting to get off the ground. We've arranged two great evenings of lively and topical discussion, and now reach over 30 members with new members joining every week.

I want to keep this momentum going, and am looking for volunteers to take the lead in organising the next few debates. I'm really keen to make sure that our members play a key role in arranging our sessions. This is for two reasons; firstly because by having more people involved it helps keep the agenda and debates fresh. Secondly, due to some unexpected changes my job over the past few months I am now increasingly based in the South East, which unfortunately is making it difficult for me to anticipate when I will be in town to run the sessions personally. It's therefore my aim to put together a rota of volunteers who are interested in the group to arrange future, regular sessions and keep this group moving forward.

So, do you think that organising a debate is something you might enjoy? Arranging the sessions is quite straightforward; meetup does most of the logistical admin, you just need to have a passion for current affairs and intelligent discussion, a friendly and open manner, and relatively good organisation skills. If you've joined this group in the first place, most of this description probably applies to you already! I would work with you to make sure things run smoothly, and Steve and I can testify to the fact that you'll find it both fun and rewarding.

So, if you're interested in running one debate or several, or would just like to speak to me about this further, please do drop me an email and briefly outline who you are and why you're interested in getting involved. And don't worry if you haven't been to one of our debates before - this is still a relatively new group so new approaches from new members are always welcomed.

This is a really great and worthwhile group, and an important additional to the North West meetup scene, so it would be fantastic if we can keep the momentum going by building a strong rota of volunteers to arrange our sessions. If you think you might like to be part of this, I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes,

Kim
