Alright fellow nerds, let's get together to share our love of awesome scifi, fantasy and adventure novels!
How it works:
We're a pretty casual and diverse group who gets together on the 3rd Tuesday of every month for a fun and interesting discussion on the month's book selection. Some of us get there a little early to grab a bite to eat and socialize a little beforehand - it's okay if you skip this and arrive on time!
It is not required to finish the book (but be prepared for spoilers if you don't!) All that we ask is for you join us for a good time and treat everyone with respect.
Please note that if you are an author, you are more than welcome to join us but we do ask that you refrain from self-promotion.
We don't have any sort of formal discussion questions or structure and instead, we let the conversation flow naturally. Our discussions typically last around an hour and a half and then we will use the last half hour to come up with suggestions for our next book selection poll.
We select our books 2 months in advance and after suggestions have been made, we use an online poll to vote on our selections.
BYOB and come join us for a virtual games night! We will be playing interactive games from the JackBox catalog of simple trivia, drawing, creativeness, and silly games that require no previous knowledge of skill level! Spectators welcome to come interact and vote on performances, all that's required to play or spectate is your zoom meeting participation and a cellphone! If you have more than one person wanting to participate from your remote location feel free to invite a guest and each of you can play along.
Due to the recent concern over the spread of COVID-19, we will be suspending live book club meetups and meeting instead in a virtual online meeting format.
Come join us online to discuss our November SciFi selection, The Player of Games by Iain Banks!
Here is a short synopsis from Goodreads:
The Culture - a humanoid/machine symbiotic society - has thrown up many great Game Players. One of the best is Jernau Morat Gurgeh, Player of Games, master of every board, computer and strategy. Bored with success, Gurgeh travels to the Empire of Azad, cruel & incredibly wealthy, to try their fabulous game, a game so complex, so like life itself, that the winner becomes emperor. Mocked, blackmailed, almost murdered, Gurgeh accepts the game and with it the challenge of his life, and very possibly his death.
As usual, our evening will include a discussion of the current selection as well as suggestions for our next book choice! If you couldn't make it to our last gathering, never fret; just grab a copy and catch up with us! If you aren't able to finish the book this time around, come anyway! You can help us with suggestions for our next read!
