What we're about

Revised 6/5/2021: This Meetup group is operated by the Mountain Club of Maryland (MCM), a nonprofit outdoors club that engages in hiking, backpacking, canoeing/kayaking, and similar outdoor activities. We are centered in the Baltimore metropolitan area but we hike throughout Maryland and in nearby states. Membership in MCM is open to all who being outdoors with a group. For a small annual membership fee, our members have access to more than 300 hikes a year offered by our volunteer hike leaders. To join, or to learn more about MCM, go to Mountain Club Of Maryland HOME PAGE (mcomd.org) (http://mcomd.org/).

Appalachian Trail relocation

Inn Road

Relocation of the AT at Duncannon.

There will be multiple trail maintenance trips to work on establishing the treadway and blazes. Expected finish in spring 2022

Approximately 1,000 ft of new trail will be constructed from the ridge crest above the parking lot to the intersection of the AT on the same contour line. This is to eliminate a PUD – pointless up and down.

The work will be creating a treadway working with pick-mattocks and digging bars. There is very little soil in the section so there will be a lot of rock breaking to create crush & fill to level the surface in places.

We will be working above the existing trail which is heavily used on weekends so particular care will be taken not to let rocks roll downhill.

Bring insect repellent, work gloves, water, snacks/lunch, suitable clothing and footwear for work on a rocky, uneven surface. You can leave anytime you want, no need to stay for the entire time.

We will be winding up work around 2PM to collect tools and hike out.

Meet 9AM at the trailhead on Inn road, Duncannon.
