This new hike will be about five miles with 700 feet of ascent. We'll have a nice view from the Patapsco Overlook where one can see miles up and down the river from high above the stream bed.
We'll meet in the Hollofield area of the hike (39.2958, -76.7828, just off US-40 at 8020 Baltimore National Pike on the south side of the road), If you're coming from Baltimore, exit to the park HQ BUT cross under US-40 to the sentry station in the Hollofield area. I'll e-mail you a map the evening before the hike. Park by the stone restrooms.
NOTE*NOTE*NOTE ***We are NOT parking at the park HQ***
Also note that the park doesn't open until 9 AM.
There's a steep, rocky descent of about 200' at the beginning of the hike. Much of the hike is rocky so hiking boots and trekking poles are highly recommended. There are no significant stream crossings.
BGE is upgrading some of their facilities in the area so, while I've tried to avoid their work areas, we may need to make some last-minute changes.
We'll also make a last-minute on-site decision about adding about an additional loop led by Lawrence (about a mile and a half taking 45 minutes or so) to the hike.
Expect mud, rocks and roots on the trails, and some usually modest stream crossings. We will try to maintain appropriate distances from each other.
By registering for this hike, you agree to the following waiver of liability:
