CiGDA (often pronounced 'sig-dah') is a free, open and supportive, grass roots group for game developers (artists, designers, coders, etc.) We meet with the purpose of learning and sharing information about independent game development (self-publishing, DIY, bootstrapping, resources, methods, etc.)
Most importantly this group is an accessible support structure to gather artists, designers, programmers, musicians and writers to make self-expressive interactive content for fun and profit.
This group is truly independent. Our topics and events center around content sharing solutions to the challenges faced by independent developers.
We never charge money to attend our meetups nor to play-test games. It is our honor to have you! The Meetup dues are entirely optional, to help us cover the cost of Meetup fees.
NOTE: We have ties with the much larger IGDA (International Game Developers Association), and we'll often collaborate on events with them - but we're our own organization.
Every month (or so!), a bunch of us get together and swap industry stories, tips and tricks, etc. Everything from one of us grumbling on the market performance of our recent game to looking for people to hire. WHO KNOWS! Come, grab dinner, and rub shoulders with we geeky few. Any artists, designers, producers, programmers, or anyone otherwise involved in the creation of games are welcome, beginners to veterans!
By "casual" we mean: We sit around chatting. No organized presentation. No waiting for everyone to make a formal introduction. Just the social part! And we are SUPER FRIENDLY. No worries about being able to make conversation. Just sit at the table and we'll talk to you!
Also: There is a small play kitchen in the cafe area that kids are welcome to play at, so if you need to bring a kid or two along, that's fine too!
