"NBH-Elite Group"

Surrey Hills Circular - An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

NBH-Elite Group hiking pace will be set by the fastest member in the group.

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

Join us for a circular route through some of South East England’s most beautiful and accessible countryside. With breathtaking views, attractive market towns and villages and much more, our walk will stroll around this beautiful part of South East England, with views across the Weald to the South Downs beyond, and some fine country pubs en route.

Our hike begins in the small village of Gomshall, as we set off across the open landscape with beautifully manicured lined trees and that all important ‘silence’, as you soak up the beautiful English countryside landscape with the occasional sound of birds in the nearby trees. In the distance behind you is the long tree-lined ridge of the North Downs Way. We continue our hike until we reach the beautiful village of Abinger with its church, village hall and the Abinger Hatch pub. This quintessentially English Pub retains all of its glorious, original features with wonderful ceiling beams, roaring wood fire, fabulous flag stones.

After passing the Abinger Hatch we head towards Abinger Common with it’s rustic woodland until we reach our lunch stop at the top of Leith Hill (974ft – 294m) and Leith Hill Tower (18-centruy Gothick tower) with spectacular 360 degree panoramic views across the Surrey Hills with views of Heathrow Airport, Central London, Canary Warf, Gatwick Airport, and the long ridge path of the South Downs, and on a clear day you see the sea. …….Remember to bring binoculars if you have any.

After lunch we head 2 miles towards Holmbury Hill (857ft), which is the site of an Iron Age hillfort, and the fourth highest point in the county of Surrey. We continue through the woodland and villages until we reach the end of our walk with a well-earned rest and drink in a country pub.

Congratulations to all the new honorary members of the "Elite Group" today. We did it in a great time and earned the drinks at the end. See you on the next one!
