Intro to Python 1: Set up development environment

Details
Learn and practice Python basics! This is the first of a series of Intro to Python sessions.
We're going to cover Python Versions 2 & 3, and two powerful command-line packages called Python package installer (pip) and Virtual Environment (virtualenv), so you'll need a *nix based operating system.
What you'll need to bring:
- wireless-enabled laptop
- *nix operating system (this includes MacOSX, Linux, Unix). Windows users, please install virtualbox and a version of linux (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/virtualbox) so that you can follow along with command-line. It takes at least half an hour for this installation process so do not wait until last minute.
(Will provide more information on laptop setup, lecture material, and projects, for now checkout our wiki on python setup (https://github.com/NYC-Pyladies/Setup-Python/wiki/laptop-setup) and The Hitchhiker's Guide to Python (http://python-guide.org), and The Beginner's Guide to Python (https://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide))
Audience:
Women and their friends who have no or limited programming experience. This event is welcoming and respectful of trans women. Men who want to learn Python are welcome as guests of women who are attending (please RSVP as well).
We'll set up your development environment and spend some time discussing version 2 vs version 3 (https://wiki.python.org/moin/Python2orPython3), and how to have both installed on your computer.
Our goal is to provide an environment in which women can develop their programming skills with confidence. You'll leave with the resources you need to continue your programming education on your own and with your fellow students. Our staff are predominantly women from the NYC programming and open source communities. **I will be needing help with this workshop. If you would like to help TA this workshop, please send me a message.
Location:
Amanda and Kara of Tipping Point Partners (http://www.tippingpointpartners.com/) are generously hosting us at this conveniently located, beautiful, and spacious workspace. It's close to stops off the A/C/E, 1/2/3, N/R, 4/5/6, J trains. Take the elevator up to 7th floor, and make a right following the red footprints to the end of the hallway.
Try to arrive early or on time so that we can finish before 8pm!
Refreshments:
We're going to have potluck style refreshments! Ideas to get your creative juices include crackers, fruit, sangria, cheese, chicken wings, veggie and dip.. If you can't or won't bring something to eat, bring $10 for ordering food.
