What we're about

New Haven Game Makers Guild is a group of tabletop game designers in and around the New Haven Area. We're focused on building a collaborative community of working designers looking to improve their craft and help each other. We organize discussion sessions, workshops, and playtesting events.

Designers and developers of all experience levels are welcome, but be aware that this group is focused on people doing work. Some of us are full time industry professionals, most of us design on the side of our primary careers, and some of us are just interested in taking our first steps into designing games.

We are affiliated with the Game Makers Guild network, based in Boston with other chapters in Philadelphia and Idaho.

Please join the Facebook group here for easier discussion: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1805132833062909/

Weekly Playtesting and Meetup

Elm City Games

Weekly playtesting for any and all local designers. Bring your prototypes or just come help other designers and get more involved in the local design community. We're primarily a bunch of tabletop designers, though we do have members that work in digital too (and are always happy for more). While we are open to anyone with an interest in design, we are primarily a group of working professionals (some full time, most part time) so we're getting together to do real work on our various projects. We do still manage to drink and hang out a lot too though. Some games are short, some games aren't; some games are close to finished, some games are likely disasters; some games are serious, most of them are not. It's free for members of Elm City Games, otherwise, it's a $5 day pass to ECG (and you can be there the whole day and play whatever else too). We also have a Facebook group that people are much more active in and use to set up additional playtesting and talk shop.

Monthly Saturday Playtesting

Elm City Games

Once a month on Saturday, we get together to spend the day playtesting each other's games. Bring a prototype or just a critical eye and desire to help. You'll be amazed at how much giving feedback on other designs can help get your own ideas flowing. Being a member of the NHGMG group is free, but you'll need to still either be a member of Elm City Games or get a day pass.
