Scaling Node.js : Hybrid use of Scala/Akka and Node.js

In this talk I am going to share the scaling challenges that we have encountered over the past few years. Our two main technology stacks are node.js / postgres / angular for our front-end and API, and scala / akka / finagle along with apache spark for our bidder and data stack. As a new company we have huge scaling issues. In this talk we will discuss what we are doing to address scaling high volume / low latency systems (200K QPS responding in < 30ms) and how you may use some of these techniques to solve similar challenges.

About the Speaker:

Dave Gullo is a hacker and entrepreneur who has been building the web since 1994. His roles have included founder / entrepreneur, software and systems engineer, human computer interaction, and technology team leader.

Some of the interesting projects he has been involved with include: bootstrapping one of the web's first online snowboard shops, building large-scale unified messaging systems, engineering print-to-web systems and free-form full text searching of careers and autos, optimizing the performance of in-flight entertainment systems, building rental management systems for ski resorts, building innovative shopping experiences for ecommerce like "size-based shopping" and "car-figurators", "tracking the online trackers" by automating thousands of concurrent browsers and observing network activity and data collection, and silver-plattering technology and top-notch hackers to post series-A companies in the Silicon Valley.

Today, Dave is the Co-Founder and Fire Chief of Technology (and Lead Arsonist) at VideoAmp where he hacks and prototypes new technology and manages the technology team's growth and culture.

About the Company:
