Welcome to Note Lovers - Live Music Listening in Ottawa!
This is a group where we welcome you to join us listening to good music here in town. We love local small venues, the kind of place we can chat together before the show. The kind of place we can meet the musicians. Most of the music is jazz, blues, and folk. But now and then some tango, flamenco, rock and musicals. If you are up on Sunday mornings, we do like a classical collection on the Quebec side so check that out. Festivals in summer.
Please buy tickets early when you want to see a show. Small venues with great musicians sell out! Out of courtesy for those on the wait-list, always cancel your RSVP if you are not coming. (Note that the "Meet-up ticket" QR code on this website is only for me to check people in for attendance with our group. You still need to purchase a ticket form the venue for every show we go to! Read carefully please.)

Join us for a powerful evening with the Ottawa Jazz Orchestra celebrating the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane — one of the most important, searching, and influential musicians in jazz history.
This concert is called Coltrane 100, and it promises to be a big, ambitious evening: a 19-musician Ottawa Jazz Orchestra program featuring Coltrane’s large-scale masterpiece Africa/Brass as well as a full big-band reimagining of his deeply spiritual work A Love Supreme.
Coltrane’s music can be intense, beautiful, meditative, and emotionally direct. He pushed jazz forward, but his music is not just “difficult” music for experts — it has a huge emotional range, from driving energy to prayer-like calm. This should be a memorable concert for anyone interested in jazz, saxophone, big ensemble writing, or music that reaches for something deeper.Date: Thursday Nov 19, 2026, 7:30 PM

Join us for an intimate evening of Brazilian jazz as acclaimed Canadian pianist Marianne Trudel and her trio revisit the music of Antônio Carlos Jobim, one of the creators of bossa nova.
The program combines beloved pieces such as One Note Samba and Água de Beber with some lesser-known Jobim gems and Brazilian-inspired original compositions. Expect warm melodies, sophisticated harmonies, gentle bossa nova rhythms and expressive improvisation.
Trudel will be joined by Étienne Lafrance on double bass and Sacha Daoud on drums and percussion. This project received the Prix Opus for Jazz Concert of the Year.
This should be an accessible and engaging concert for both experienced jazz listeners and anyone who simply enjoys beautiful piano music and Brazilian rhythms.Date: Thursday, November 26, 2026
