Description: This part two of a three part, hands-on introduction to the Linux operating system. Linux is the leading choice for server-based operating systems because of its reliability, stability, robust security features, and of course, it's price. It is estimated that 80-90% of the web is running on Linux. We will be focusing on the command-line tools in the BASH shell used to administer Linux-based systems. This class will feature the popular Ubuntu operating system, but most of the topics covered and the knowledge you will acquire will be applicable to wide range of Linux systems.
Part 3 - BASH Scripting, Networking & Advanced Terminal Usage
Objectives:
- Advanced shell scripting
- Advanced terminal usage
- Special filesystems & Linux Internals
- System Networking
- System firewalls
- Terminal multiplexing
- Terminal job control
- The Linux kernel and kernel modules
What to Bring:
- A laptop where you have admin privileges and the ability to get on a wifi network. This class will use cloud LInux systems that we remotely connect to via SSH.
- If you're using a Windows laptop, please download Putty (https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html). If on Mac or Linux, a SSH client is already included on your system.
Pre-Requisite Knowledge:
- None required, but any prior command line experience with Windows, Mac or Linux will be helpful.

Parking: There is free street parking on N Ontario St. It is usually easy to find a spot after business hours or on weekends.
