Description: Introduction to Git introduces version control as a concept using the git system. Whether you have experience using other source control systems or Git is your first we'll begin by walking through setting up git on your local machine and setting up a GitHub account for use in sharing. Students will learn the basics of the how Git works as well as common Git workflows. We'll look at how to use GitHub to share code and interact with an open source community providing students the skills to use Git for their own personal projects or to contribute to large open source projects with others.

What to Bring:

  • A laptop where you have admin privileges and the ability to get on a wifi network.

Pre-Requisite Knowledge:

  • None required, but any prior command line experience with Windows, Mac or Linux will be helpful.

Where do I park? / How do I get inside?

Parking: There is free street parking on N Ontario St. It is usually easy to find a spot after business hours or on weekends.

Getting inside: Once you park, head down the walkway, we are the long building in the back (see link for overhead directions)
