Two Worlds, One Creek - A Geology Walk
Meet at 8:00 am at the Hunting Hollow parking lot of Henry Coe State Park. Are you fascinated by rocks? Join our Guest Geologists for a 4-hour, off-trail walk, including a lunch stop. We will explore a section of the Coyote Creek along the Madrone Springs Fault. You can learn to identify rocks from the Great Valley Sequence (from Palassou) and the Franciscan Complex (from Coe). Limestones, blueschist, graywacke sandstone, serpentinite, conglomerates, and more. Discover the processes that shaped these rocks, starting 150 million years ago to today. There is a $6 cash-only parking fee; $5 for seniors. We will shuttle in about two miles to the hike-start area. Hiking will be in the creek-bed and tributary drainages. We will go slowly, walk, talk, examining rocks and creek processes. Lunch at the old swimming hole along the creek. Bring a hat, sunscreen, water, and lunch. Wear sturdy shoes. Hiking poles for balance and long pants advised. Rain cancels. Please go to this link to register: https://coegeologywalk.eventbrite.com

What we're about

I decided to start this group because we have some really awesome and fun hiking trails in our area. And also, some of these agencies have docents that really rock. The Open Space Authority docents are friendly, engaging and won't make you cry hiking up the hill (unless you like killer hikes and then they have some crazy intense hikers, too). This group is for anyone who likes to go hiking, or for walks and would like people to go with. If you like walking with other people, if you are shy, friendly, outgoing, or just love being outdoors, this is a chance to hang out with some fun people.

I work for the Open Space Authority and we preserve land for wildlife and people alike. If you want to know more, please check out the web site at www.openspaceauthority.org. This meetup is not actually sponsored by Open Space Authority but will include all kinds of info on their latest hikes since I am in the know. I want you to be in the know too! (smile)
