Project Background: Fall of 2017 a few skilled OSM-ers in the Denver community worked with the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) to prepare an import of Planimetrics building footprints, professionally created from 3” imagery. The goal is to import the over one million buildings in the 9-county metro area of Denver by an organized team of OSMers committed to tackling the project to contribute and validate a series of small bulk uploads. This is where you come in... we want you to be on this team. All mappers are welcome, no matter how much, or little, time you have to help. There's lots of different ways to help for those with varying skills and time. In the quality assurance phase we will be gathering missing addresses to complete our database. Common reasons for missing addresses are apartment buildings, duplexes, condos (etc) - and of course, new construction. License restrictions prevent us from using Google Street to update our database, so we go into the field to capture the data so that it is free to use. Come meet the team and see where your skills fit best!

Each batch should take 1 hour or less; but don't feel you need to finish an entire task, make a note and come back, or another mapper can finish where you left off. However, the workflow for the import requires some familiarity with the JOSM editor. There are plenty of resources to get you started beforehand; such as http://LearnOSM.org

For the import itself, you will want to familiarize yourself with:

Most important! Community practice (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Guidelines) is to use an OSM account designated for imports; this also helps us track progress, users, etc. as well as make sure you have access to the projects. Follow the instructions in the workflow above. Doing so ahead of time will help us get going quicker with the walk-through.

If you come late, no worries, we'll all be helping each other in these importathons anyway so better explanations might evolve as it gets later.

Don't forget to bring: Laptop with working and updated JOSM editor and a mouse is highly recommended.
