Welcome to OUTdoors KC - the LGBTQ+ adventuring club of Kansas City. Join us for hiking, bicycling, paddling, and backpacking through our local great big backyard.
OUTdoors KC is a judge-free Meetup open to all backgrounds, ages, and experience levels. Even though we are primarily a LGBTQ group, friends and allies are always welcome. If you have a four-legged friend that you would like to bring along feel free, provided they are on a leash and it is not otherwise noted in the event’s description.
Adventuring with us starts with you, and probably the most exciting part about our group is that our outings are just as diverse as our members. Whether it’s leisurely day hikes around town, paddling the Muddy Mo, or multi-night backpacks in the Ozark Mountains we strive to maintain an active year-round calendar. As always, if you have an idea for an event feel free to make a suggestion or contact us by email.
Thank you for your interest in joining! We look forward to meeting you, and hope to see you at our next outing!
Let's Meetup in the parking lot of the Midcontinent Library in Lee's Summit at 9:30. From there we'll carpool onto the Garden. Leaving at 9:40 we'll get there a bit after 10. Powell Gardens, Kansas City's botanical garden, is a 970-acre botanical garden in Kingsville, Missouri 21 miles east of Lee's Summit. It features 6,000 varieties of plants, with 225,000 plants in seasonal displays, and is open to the public, for a fee, during daylight hours. Tickets per person are between 8 and 10 dollars. There are a few options for lunch there but I supose one could picnic as well. More info on the garden > https://powellgardens.org/ No doubt this event will last more than 3 hours. Scheduling this earlier to enjoy the cooler part of the day. Rise and Shine ;-D
Let’s meet for a morning hike on the Swope Park Trials. We’ll travel at a moderate pace, combining segments of the Rancho D-Lux and Wudchuck Run to make a 4.5 mile loop. Meet at the trailhead just off Oldham and Oakwood Rd. Parking is available in front of the trailhead and along Oldham Rd. Bring sturdy shoes, water, bug spray, a backpack if you want to ruck, and comfortable clothes for the weather. Dogs are allowed if on a leash. Total hiking time should be about two hours.
