7-7:30 arrive and socialize (beer and soft drinks provided by Pivotal).

7:30 We'll hear from Lorelei and Marci and have an open discussion around the needs and challenges facing members of US Congress and their staff as well as how we can use technology as a lever to open up information sharing.

About Lorelei Kelly

Lorelei Kelly is a national security expert with 13 years of experience working in and around the US Congress. She is originally from the Bay Area. Her current mission is to use technology to improve the practice of American democracy and serve the public interest. How might we distribute parts of the oversight functions of Congress to states and districts? Especially, how might we serve the institution's needs for global awareness and subject matter expertise? Can hyper local hubs, real time expert support, super validator networks and high reputation teams crack the information cartel on Capitol Hill? Can we create an influential constituency for evidence-based decision making? What would this knowledge support technology look like?

About Marci Harris

As a Congressional staffer, Marci Harris was struck by the information overload of millions of constituent messages and thousands upon thousands of position papers and letters flooding overwhelmed staffers. She left Congress in 2010 to work with her co-founders Rachna Choudhry and Josh Tauberer to build, a disruptive advocacy platform that meshes legislative data with individuals’ personal stories and sentiment. POPVOX delivers public input to Congress in a format tailored to actionable policy decisions and empowers users to leverage their expertise and numbers. POPVOX provides a legislative dashboard for Congress and government affairs professionals with bill status information, customized tracking, bill-specific advocacy information, and real-time constituent sentiment and comments.

With early angel backing from Tim O'Reilly, POPVOX -- still in beta -- has registered users in every Congressional district and over 47,000 user positions registered on pending bills. POPVOX took top honors in the Social Media category at this year's SxSW Accelerator Competition in Austin.
