Network Developer Day: Hands-on Labs, an Industry Panel and Developer talks

Details

We will host a panel of business gurus from the industry to discuss what network developers should keep in mind when developing a project to take to market. Panelists include Lakshmi Sharma, Google; Robert Starmer, Kumulus Networks; Sanjit Dang, Intel Capital and Andrew Wilkinson, Ericsson. Sujata Tibrewala will be the moderator. Following the panel, there will be Lightening Talks where developers will share their projects to get input and feedback from the panelists and attendees.

Can't attend in person? We'll be live-streaming the panel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1bidDoKztA .

Two hands-on labs will take place prior to the meet-up. Spend the afternoon learning about Lightweight Virtualized Conatiners in OPNFV and also DPDK.
Registration will open at 1:00 pm and the first lab begins at 1:30pm. Can't attend the labs in the afternoon? Please feel free to join us for food, networking and the evening meet up. Attending just the labs is okay, too! Food and networking begin at 5:00pm and the Meet up will begin at 6:00pm. Please take a moment to register for this event (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sdnnfv-developer-day-lightening-talks-tickets-40029982756) and you'll be entered into a raffle to win a Kindle Fire!

Hands-on Labs
Enabling Lightweight Virtualized Containers in OPNFV (begins at 1:30pm)
We will examine the current state of container (and Kubernetes) support in Open Platform for Network Function Virtualization (OPNFV). We will also examine new container technologies that use lightweight virtual machines for containerized workloads, as exemplified by Intel Clear Containers and the upcoming Kata Containers project. We’ll look at the components of container management systems, with an eye towards the integration of lightweight virtualization into OPNFV’s container support. Finally, we’ll have a hands-on lab session in which you’ll be able to install Kubernetes with cc-runtime, the Intel Clear Containers runtime engine for containers. We'll explore how it functions and the challenges and opportunities for integrating into OPNFV.

What are latest new features DPDK brings into 2018? (Begins at 3:15pm)
We will provide an overview of the new features of the latest DPDK release including source code browsing and API listing of top two new features of latest DPDK release. And on top of that, there will be a hands-on lab, on the Intel® microarchitecture (code name Skylake) servers, to learn how getting started with DPDK will become much simpler and powerful.

Panel Discussion
SDN/NFV the business of Network Transformation: What, How and Why? (Begins at 6:00pm)
Software Defined Networking and Network Function Virtualization would be playing an increasing important key role in transforming the networks for the 5G and Next generations of the network. Business gurus from the Industry will discuss what it means to support an eco-system in which developers and vendors can flourish and meet their business needs while working on this ever changing open source driven world.
