Senior Black male tech leaders - Where are they?
Hosted by Blacks in Technology PDX Meetup
Details
This is a coast to coast event, from BIT National.
What is the face of corporate tech leaders - the CIO, CTO, and technology vice presidents of corporation's and government's technology enterprises? This meetup discusses the prevalence of / lack of Black men succeeding to the highest levels of tech management in today's enterprises.
This event is a must for young, diverse technologists to better understand the issues facing diverse leaders as they rise, fail, pivot, fight or thrive to the top. This event is a must too for all professionals who are in relationships with Black male senior tech leaders - these relationships include their bosses, co-workers, subordinates and family members. Women are vital for a Black man's success too!
We'll even ask for real-world experiences on whether a man's height, the tone of his skin, his accent, and whether the bass in his voice are factors to manage. Is there a problem? Or is the 'system' set-up long-ago in our case studies to condition people to think of senior tech leaders in one hue. https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/hr-topics/behavioral-competencies/global-and-cultural-effectiveness/pages/in-focus-black-business-leaders-hard-to-find-among-business-school-case-studies-.aspx
Our speakers and panel include: 1) those rare few at the top with distinguished long tenures with one employer, 2) those who have moved-out of the enterprise, but went back in, and 3) those who left the enterprise to make it on their own. We will ask about and hear - the truth, the real 411. Do you have a real seat at the table, and if not, how do you get it. Do Black men have a better chance in the NBA, starting their own business, or perhaps taking up a career doing stand-up comedy.
Our speakers include:
Onyeka Nchege, CIO Toyota Industries. After twelve years in CIO roles at Coca Cola and Interstate Batteries, in 2017, Onyeka launched his own consulting firm. However, in 2018, he went back into the enterprise, first at The Cooper Institute, and then since April 2020, as CIO with Toyota Industries. https://www.linkedin.com/in/onyeka-nchege-7740367/
