What we’re about
Welcome to The Project Community - Wellington (formerly known as the PRINCE2 User Group Meetup). This group was formed in 2009 to help support those adopting PRINCE2 in the Wellington Region. We are connected to The Project Community - Auckland (also formerly known as the PRINCE2 Auckland User Group) who had their first meeting on September 18, 2012. Both groups will continue to hold free sessions throughout the year and continue to support those interested in getting their PRINCE2 foundation or practitioner qualifications but we want to actively promote and support capabilities in those other areas of project management, programme management, portfolio management, project office management, benefits management, strategic realisation and change management. We'll also take an interest in digitisation, Agile development, Business intelligence and Artificial intelligence. If you can do a project with it, then we're interested in it.
Note, there is no formal constitution and membership is free. Costs of venues, food and liquid refreshments at our meetings are through the generosity of our sponsors.
What the group is:
• Forward thinking and positive
• A great place to network at a professional level
• Diverse - in terms of views and membership
• Focused on sharing and learning from each other
• Embracing relevant new technologies and new thinking
Further information on the group's history and objectives is on the "about the user group" page www.prince2.org.nz

See all- What is Product Management?Deloitte, Wellington
And what’s its relationship with Project, Programme, and Portfolio Management?
Are you a little fatigued or tired with Project Management? Then Product Management could be the thing you pivot to next in your career!
Presenter: Youssef Mourra, Founder & Principal Consultant, Nonsuch. Youssef Mourra | LinkedIn
He has over 30+ years’ experience in Project, Programme, Product, and Portfolio Management (P4M). He loves every aspect of the P4M world. He loves deconstructing any pomposity that goes with P4M and always ensures his presentations are accessible, interesting, and entertaining. Please come along and learn more about the slightly alternate world of Product Management. He’ll help you understand what Product Management is and how it is different to Project, Programme, and Portfolio Management. He’ll also show all four work and play nicely together.
PMOs and EPOs. Are they still of use and are they providing value to their organisations?
Panel: We take it for granted that any organisation of a size that has monies and ambition set aside to change their organisation or take up strategic opportunities would set up a Project Management Office (PMO) and/or Enterprise Portfolio Office (EPMO). We’ve been doing this for decades. But the time might be to check in and ensure there is not only a role for the PMO/EPO but that they are still providing value or otherwise to their host organisation. Come along and throw some questions at the panel no matter how tricky!

Panellists:
Ila Hema, EPMO Manager, ACC (1) Ila Hema | LinkedIn
Ila Hema is an accomplished leader with a strong foundation in project management across both the private sector and government agencies. With extensive experience in PMO and EPMO management and establishment, Ila brings a pragmatic and outcomes-focused approach to enterprise portfolio delivery. She is deeply familiar with the challenges many agencies face in adopting P3M frameworks, often due to limited maturity and capability, and is committed to demonstrating the tangible value an EPMO can provide—especially in today’s complex public sector environment.
Ila is passionate about building capability within her team and ensuring that service offerings are right-sized, flexible, and responsive to customer needs. Her leadership is grounded in practical experience, strategic insight, and a strong belief in empowering people to deliver meaningful change.Abby Harris, EPMO Lead, Medical Assurance Society (1) Abby Harris | LinkedIn
I’ve worked in the PMO/EPMO space for the last 6 years with experience across both public and private sector. Majority of my work has been around establishment and embedding of EPMO functions and frameworks across organisations.I would describe myself as a pragmatic EPMO/PMO specialist. I see the true value of an EPMO as enabling an organisation to effectively execute on their business strategy. I believe EPMO leaders should apply a continual improvement lens at all times, ensuring they are delivering value to the business by delivering the right things, in the right way, at the right time.
I am a strong advocate for implementing fit for purpose solutions as opposed to cut and paste methodologies which may not fit an organisations ecosystem. I believe in the value of business agility at a cultural level and think collaboration, communication and transparency are the pillars for successful ways of working.John Derby, PMO Lead, Fusion 5 (1) John Derby | LinkedIn
John has for the last decade worked within PMOs involved in multiple large-scale digital transformation programmes within central government. Over that time, he has worn many hats and has gained a deep exposure into the varied domains into which PMOs can and do reach, when the needs are diverse.
He recently moved from working for the client into the vendor sphere, and for the last year has led Fusion5’s PMO across both their New Zealand and Australian operations. John has worked across the gamut of traditional waterfall, agile, and hybrid environments, and is heavily involved in the development of AI tooling and its incorporation into their methodologies and ways of working.5:00pm - Pre-meeting drinks and finger food
