About us

The Tashi Lhunpo Sangha is a Buddhist meditation group based out of Palo Alto, CA that meets regularly to meditate and explore dharma practices. Beginners are welcome! We meet under the guidance and mentorship of Khen Rinpoche Zeekgyab Tulku. Appointed by the Dalai Lama, he is Abbot of The Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Bylakuppe, India. You can read more about our Sangha at https://tashilhunposangha.org . Come join us!

Experience Tibetan New Year from within one of the most important learning centers of Tibetan Buddhism which was originally founded by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and is the traditional seat of His Holiness the Panchen Lama.

For eight unforgettable days, you'll be immersed in the spiritual, cultural, and daily life of the monastery, participating in sacred ceremonies, teachings, meditations, traditional celebrations, and meaningful interactions with the resident monks.

More than simply attending a retreat, you'll become part of a living tradition while directly supporting the preservation of Tibetan Buddhist culture and the education of more than 500 scholarly monks.

Retreat Highlights
• Celebrate Losar alongside the monastic community
• Witness sacred Cham dances and traditional Tibetan New Year ceremonies
• Receive teachings from senior Tibetan lamas
• Learn meditation techniques in an authentic monastic setting
• Experience daily monastery life
• Participate in Tibetan cultural activities, including a momo making class
• Visit nearby Tibetan monasteries and the famous Golden Temple
• Enjoy shared meals with monks and members of the local Tibetan community
• Reflect, meditate, and begin the Tibetan New Year with renewed purpose

Sample Itinerary
- February 2: Arrival in Bangalore, transfer to Mysore
- February 3: Visit Mysore Palace before traveling to Tashi Lhunpo Monastery for your welcome and orientation
- February 4–8: Monastery immersion featuring:

  • Morning prayer in the main temple (optional)
  • Dharma teachings
  • Guided meditation
  • Historical and cultural presentations
  • Cham Dance ceremony
  • White Tara Long Life Initiation
  • Visits to surrounding monasteries
  • Losar celebrations with the local Tibetan community

- February 9: Departure for Bangalore Airport

Please note that the itinerary is subject to change in accordance with monastery activities and ceremonial schedules.

Accommodations
Participants will spend one night in Mysore followed by six nights staying inside Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. Accommodations are modest but comfortable, and include a private bathroom. Vegetarian meals are provided throughout the retreat.

Retreat Fees
- Shared Room: $2,500
- Private Room: $3,050

A non-refundable $500 deposit is due by September 30, 2026.
The balance is due by November 30, 2026.

The retreat fee includes:
• One hotel night in Mysore
• Six nights at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery
• All meals
• Ground transportation
• Entrance to Mysore Palace
• Retreat teachings and activities
• A special meal offering for the resident monks

Airfare is not included.

- September 30, 2026 Registration and $500 deposit due
- October 15, 2026. Apply for Indian Visa and Protected Area Permit (PAP)
- November 30, 2026. Final payment due
