What we're about

The Philadelphia Area Great Careers Group provides career education and networking. We serve the unemployed, underemployed, self-employed, and employed, as well as the organizations (businesses and nonprofits) that employ them and we are a 501(c)3 nonprofit.

We offer some free career success groups and interview prep for jobseekers, meetings with speakers, networking, and workshops on career transition, career management, entrepreneurship, social media topics of interest, LinkedIn workshops, and more that are all virtual in 2021 during COVID.

Not all of our meetings are free. You can choose to pay $5 per speaker meeting as a non-member or you can become a member for $4 or $5 a month (paid annually).

Become a Bronze or BENG member (https://greatcareersphl.org/membership/) to accelerate your career management. It's only $49 to $59 a year and allows you to attend all $5 speaker meetings for free for an entire year, as well as get other valuable benefits.

PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION
How do we prepare for the 21st century’s global borderless workplace? By focusing on signals that provide insight into future economic trends, the implications for business models and skill needs. Christopher Bishop has a fascination for how careers and jobs will be transformed over the next 20 years. Based on his own nonlinear, multimodal career path, he has developed a set of creative and imagination-driven exercises to help participants be successful in pursuing their own evolving career paths.

SPEAKER BIO
Christopher Bishop is a workplace futurist who has had eight careers so far – including touring rock musician (played with Robert Palmer), jingle producer (sang on the first Kit Kat TV commercial “Gimme A Break”) and Web site project manager (developed Johnson & Johnson’s first corporate Web site).

Chris also spent 15 years at IBM in a variety of roles including business strategy consultant and communications executive at Corporate Headquarters driving social media adoption and the use of virtual worlds for training and events.

Based on this atypical career path, Chris developed a program called “How to succeed at jobs that don’t exist yet” designed to give today’s learners insight into how to navigate the new world of work. He has shared this perspective at various universities including Baruch, Columbia, Duke, Queens College, Stern School of Business at NYU, Texas A&M and Union College. Chris recorded a live-action course for LinkedIn Learning called “Future-proofing your data science career” – which went live in May 2020.

In addition, Chris gave a talk at TEDxTimesSquare in April 2013 about his multiple careers. He was also awarded a Practitioner Residency by the Rockefeller Foundation in 2011 and spent a month at their Bellagio Center on Lake Como developing his workshop materials and laying out a framework for his book “Improvising Careers.”

Specifically, attendees will learn to harness the power of our ongoing automatic thoughts, which are driven by deep-seated beliefs and can lead to actions that are counterproductive to desired personal and professional outcomes.

This training will focus on the identification of 7 inner strengths of resilience, as well as the development of 7 critical resilience skills. It's called "PowerThinking: Rejuvenating Your Amazing Mind!"

Each week, attendees will receive a text message containing content or an exercise which will be discussed on the Thursday training calls. Attendees will also receive a text reminder on the day of the call.
