Demystifying Roles in Product Management
On Thursday, August 23rd we will be welcoming Anthony Ilukwe and Ninon Laforce to our ProductTank TO Meetup. During this month’s meetup we will be focusing on the topics of Technical Product Management and Product Owners. ----------------------------------------- Topic: What is a Technical Product Manager anyway? Speaker: Anthony Ilukwe, Director of Product at PathFactory Topic Description: What type of Product Manager does your team need? Technical, or Strategy focused? Should this even be a choice? This talk will provide clarity on what these two types of Product Managers look like - diving into the Technical Product Manager: the profile, skills, importance of the role, and questions that organizations should consider when building teams around technical product managers. Anthony Ilukwe is a technologist and currently a Director in R&D at PathFactory, where he focuses on product strategy and driving value to PathFactory’s 100+ B2B customers. He is also Technology Chair at the Canadian International Council in Toronto, and a lover of music and football (the real one). He’s an alumni of BlackBerry and TopHat, and co-creator of School Locator app. ----------------------------------------- Topic: The Successful Product Owner Speaker: Ninon LaForce, Director Product Management at BlueCat Topic Description: Agile introduced a new product role in Scrum called the Product Owner. What's a Product Owner? What differentiates the Product Owner versus the Product Manager? Why and when should organizations have both roles? This talk will provide clarity on the need for and the value of the Product Owner as well as the important skills to develop in order to become a successful Product Owner. Ninon Laforce started her career in sales and marketing at various technology startups in Toronto. She broke from marketing into product management at Globalive Communication where she was promoted to manage all new product innovation. After 10 years at Globalive, she took on product management roles at Morneau Shepell and then at Terapeak which was acquired by eBay last fall. Since October 2017, you can find her at BlueCat Networks where she supports and mentors a team of Product Owners. Ninon is a member of the Toronto Product Management Association where she volunteers regularly as a mentor. In her free time, she enjoys reading, running, cycling, travelling and pretty much anything that involves being outdoors. ----------------------------------------------------------- • Important to know *Doors close at 6:15pm.* ----------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to our generous sponsor: Points (
