Come join us at the May Meetup of PyData Denver! This month we will have two speakers presenting very interesting, yet different topics:

Jacob Naylor, Sr. Data Scientist with Oracle Data Cloud

Jacob will give a broad talk on his experiences as a data scientist. Jacob has worked at a variety of companies ranging in size from 10 - 150,000 employees across the energy, banking, fintech, and adtech sectors. He will offer some interesting insights and advice from a data science career perspective.

Jason Cherry, Agency Analyst & Data Coordinator at Jewish Family Service of Colorado

Jason will be presenting a unique approach to hyper-parameter optimization. Using L2 regularization in regression often leads to methods like grid search, where you have to build multiple models to narrow down on a good L2 parameter. In Jason's presentation, he will show a method of having the model learn the L2 parameter at the same time as the weights, leading to only needing a single pass of learning the model.
