Details
PyDataMCR is a strictly professional event, as such professional behaviour is expected.
We welcome everyone with an interest in all things data, from beginners to seasoned pros, whether you work in journalism, eCommerce, physics, or anything in between. We're big fans of open source. Python, R, and Julia are staples, but Java and JavaScript are welcome too
PyDataMCR is a chapter of PyData, an educational program of NumFOCUS and thus abides by the NumFOCUS Code of Conduct https://pydata.org/code-of-conduct.html. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with its contents.

Agent-based Modeling
Social science seeks to understand human behaviour. Not only is this exploration difficult, but it comes with a series of ethical problems. One solution is agent-based modeling. We simulate actors and their behaviours and allow them to interact with one another. With these actors based on a real-world understanding, we can make predictions about new social policy.
When:
February 23rd 18:00

Dr Julia Kasmire - @JKasmireComplex
Julia Kasmire researches and teaches on how to use new forms of data for social scientists with the UK Data Service and the Cathie Marsh Institute at the University of Manchester. The UK Data Service is the UK's largest collection of social, economic and population data.
She approaches this task as an interesting combination of thinking like a computer (essential for data sciences) and thinking like a human (essential for social sciences) in the context of complex adaptive systems. She is deeply committed to equality, diversity and inclusivity and is currently dabbling with stand-up comedy as a form of science communication.
