This months Meetup consists of a exciting selection of talks from some of our members. After the talks there will be the chance to get to know each other better. There is no need to bring a laptop, unless you want to :)
About the speakers:
# Maria Jose Molina-Contreras
- I am sorry Academia, it’s you, not me.
My journey from academia to data science world.
In this talk I would like to share my experiences while changing my career path from academia to data science in the industry. It was, and still is, an emotional rollercoaster, but don’t worry! I will give you some tips to keep your motivation up, technical advises, and useful resources to not dying while trying.
Maria Jose is a tech enthusiast, that after a couple of dates with Python, decided to start a formal relationship. She got a PhD in Biotechnology (Plants molecular biology) in Barcelona before moving to Berlin. Currently, she is working at ZAGENO as Data analyst.

For most years I have predominantly programmed in Java, recently I moved to a team where 90% of our
software is written in Python3. In this talk I want to share about things that I learnt and use everyday
that I think are cool :), and help our code to be readable and maintainable.
A passionate Software Developer for the past 10 years Shyamala currently works with Volkswagen Digital:Lab, Berlin. She has been developing in mostly Java but recently became a Polyglot developer. She can codes in Python, Go and Kotlin.
Shyamala loves to discuss Test Driven Development, Pair Programming, Clean Code, JWT tokens,
OpenId connect, OAuth2.
# Katyanna Moura
- First steps into the testing world of Python
At first sight, tests may seem confusing and even a bit scary. There are many tools, multiple test levels, different approaches, and techniques. In this talk I want to share my 30-days report of learning to test Python applications; the challenges I found, some cool resources that helped me, and the questions I had (or still have).
