Spring PyLadies Berlin Talks 2019 - Part II

Details

This Meetup starts with an open chat session with our guest Omosola Odentude, please bring questions relating to tech leadership, product development, career trajectory, overcoming obstacles, and her tech expertise. Then we'll enjoy an exciting selection of talks from some of our members :)

# Omosola Odetunde | Chat session
Senior software engineer and tech leader recently turned independent engineering/product advisor. She has regularly led product development and wears many hats including Front-end, Backend, Research, and UX Design.

She has a love for building great, socially-beneficial products and has been doing so for more almost a decade. Her goal and passion has always been to spread as much good in the world as possible, and early on she discovered that technology was one medium for her to do so.

She has Masters (AI/Natural Language Processing) and Bachelors degrees in Computer Science from Stanford University and has built countless products with companies such as Clue, Shopify, Stanford Research, Babbel, and Microsoft. She loves mentoring and empowering entrepreneurs, developers, minorities in tech, and people in general to reach their full potential. Other outlets for her seemingly endless energy include gymnastics, dancing, lettering, and photography.

# Florencia Noriega | Pylotwhale - Exploring animal sounds with Python

Birds orchestrate Berlin's spring with their songs. Mining animal sounds from audio recordings can help us understand animals and answer questions such as which birds sing in spring and whether the birds singing are the same every year. Addressing these questions requires identifying animal sounds from large volumes of audio files. Sound identification is simple for the human ear but a challenging task for computers. In this talk, I will share insights on mining audio data and talk about how to use Python to investigate animal sounds by combining audio signal processing and machine learning.

Florencia is a curiosity fuelled person raising the flag of equal rights for all topics. Questions such as what's the nature of light, how does your lunch gets transformed in you and how do animals communicate through sound have ignited her research. Florencia holds a PhD from the
International Max Planck Research School for Physics of Biological and
Complex Systems and since February is a software engineering lecturer at CODE.

# José Coto | Show me what you mean!

Visualizing data has become part of a data analyst's day to day job. Being that you are performing exploratory analysis, doing reporting tasks or building dashboards, choosing appropriate visualizations could make the difference between spotting or hiding data patterns. In this talk, I will go through some examples to illustrate best practices for visualizing data. While we will be using some python libraries (e.g. Altair) my main objective is to have a deeper understanding of how to use visualizations to show what you mean.

José Coto is a data enthusiast and, especially, a data visualization junkie. He has worked with python and its data related libraries for around 5 years. Currently, he works at door2door as a BI developer.
