[Limited Seats] Getting started with PyMC and Bayesian Modelling

Details

• Description
Bayesian modeling has several advantages, in particular, the superior handling of uncertainty compared to conventional models. While the advantages are often well known, implementing a Bayesian model can be a bit more involved since it usually requires building the model yourself as well as checking convergence, etc.
If you’ve always been interested in learning how to use Bayesian modeling yourself but have been intimidated by the seemingly steep learning curve then this tutorial is for you.
I will walk you through the whole Bayesian workflow using PyMC3, from building the model & picking the right prior to your problem, checking convergence all the way to using & interpreting the results of your model.

• Speaker
Corrie Bartelheimer first became interested in data when studying topological data analysis during her math Masters. She currently works as a freelance Data Scientist and is interested in Bayesian modeling as well as best practices for data science teams. She also co-organizes the Berlin Bayesian meetup.

• Audience level:
Basic Python Data Science stack knowledge

• Host
RASA https://rasa.com/

• Installation requirements
PyMC3
ArviZ

Tutorial: https://github.com/corriebar/PyLadies-Bayesian-Tutorial
Please download the code and follow the installation instructions :)

• Miscellaneous
Snacks and drinks will be available.

• Gender policy
We believe knowledge is for all and at the same time, our events aim primarily to empower women tech community. We request non-female attendees to be aware of this situation and make their presence discrete. Eg. by coming with a female plus one to ensure gender balance, avoiding to be heard more than the rest of the attendees in discussions and question sections.

• Photography / video consent
We take photos and videos during the event to use for documentation and in social media such as here in Photo albums, Facebook, Twitter, etc. By coming to the meetup, you willingly give consent to take photos and videos of you. If you do not want to give your consent, please let us know at check-in.
