About us

C-ville RUG was founded in July 2011 by Bethany Pritchard, a Revit enthusiast and BIM consultant to several firms in Charlottesville at the time. Today she is the Director of Design Technology at VMDO Architects. The group has grown over the years and is managed by a board of directors where Bethany is joined by Sidney Griffin of the University of Virginia (formerly of VMDO), Matthew Kavanaugh of Stantec, William Abrahamson of Grimm + Parker, Robert Glover of Barton Malow and Sal DiPietro of Springpoint Structural.

We are a collaborative group, sharing tips and tricks as well as best practices, processes and workflows for working with Autodesk Revit and related software. Anyone who currently works with Revit or is interested in learning more about it is invited to join our group.

Experienced group members are happy to share their experiences to advise and guide prospective offices considering an upgrade to Revit. You’ll find out what it really takes to make the transition and if you’re ready to take the plunge!

C’ville RUG has consistently provided high quality education and networking opportunities for area AEC professionals from all disciplines. Attendance draws from across Central VA with regular partnerships with Richmond and DC/NOVA BIM groups.

C’ville RUG has hosted national BIM industry leaders and offered a platform for local practitioners to present topic specific expertise while always providing an open forum for peer-to-peer learning on technical solutions, practice management, and exposure to cutting-edge technologies (3D scanning, construction coordination, AR/VR, generative design, energy/carbon design strategies, etc.).

Roundtable Workshop:

Grimm and Parker Architects, 123 East Main Street, Second Floor, Charlottesville, va, US

Hybrid Event - Click here to join the meeting now virtually.
See time on the right to add the event and teams link to your calendar. If you want a reminder you'll need to set that in the calendar appointment settings (by default it's set to none).

Please note the change to our start and end times. We are adding 15 minutes at the beginning and end for extra questions and conversation. Arrive at 12:15 to discuss anything outside the advertised topic. That keeps the main presentation on schedule and gives us a full hour on the main subject, while still leaving room to help one another with BIM issues and challenges!

15th Anniversary Celebration:

Cville RUG held its first meeting in July 2011. Fifteen years later we have grown and evolved, and that is worth celebrating. By request, Sid's hot dogs and our beach party theme are back, along with other food and cupcakes. In person attendance is encouraged, and a virtual option is still available.
There is no formal presentation this month. Instead we are putting together a retrospective slideshow of highlights from the past 15 years to mark how far the group has come. Then we want to open the floor to the future.

Our original mission was to be a cross industry, cross discipline group focused on sharing best practices and building knowledge. Is there a way to pursue that more intentionally now? What should the next 15 years of Cville RUG look like: new topics, new formats, something else? AI will clearly shape a large part of the work ahead. Do the lessons from implementing BIM 15 years ago, when it was new and uncharted territory, apply to where we are now and where we are going?

Tips and Tricks sharing:
If time allows, we will also open the floor to tips and tricks, It does not have to be Revit. An AI tool or workflow you have started using counts too. If you have something to share, either send it to us ahead of time so we have something visual on screen for everyone, or bring your laptop if you are attending in person and share your screen during the meeting.

RSVP required:
Let us know whether you are joining in person or virtually so we can plan food accordingly. Please reply by Sep 16th
