What we're about

This group is for those of you who have a deep earnestness to explore the highest truth of spiritual wisdom.

You’re probably familiar with the utterances of Ramana, Nisargadatta, Krishna, Christ and others of wise ilk and you’ve explored the Bhagavad Gita and other ancient teachings. We’ll sit in reflection of such wisdom, discuss personal observations, and perhaps assimilate some meaning into our daily, momentary existence.

Many of you reading this have been on spiritual path for years, decades, lifetimes if you will, however, still feel an inner sense of confusion, and struggle to find any semblance of peace, freedom in daily life.
The reason for this is perhaps twofold - first, spirituality has gone the way of self-help, it has become a means to a self-serving end. That is, it's pursued to make sense of ‘our lives’ in ‘this world.’ Hence, we find ourselves trying desperately to create happiness, better ourselves, our circumstances. Generally and inevitably we fall disillusioned with the pendulum of outcomes.

However, true spiritual exploration was never intended for this purpose - it was presented without the need / desire to create fruitive results, rather transcend them entirely, through self-enquiry and self-abidance. This process enables us to question the mystical nature / essence of our existence, our sense of personal doership, and our conceptual understanding of time.

The second reason for our confusion is that we absorb horrendously large amounts 'spiritual' knowledge, without filtering, self-reflection and guidance from others. Thus, perennial wisdom remains purely intellectual. And just like parrots we hurl platitudes: “everything is an illusion … I don't exist” to sound enlightened amongst our peers, thereby satisfying our egoic cravings. However, surely it would be more beneficial to patiently, experientially explore in stillness the magnitude of these and other pearls; perhaps this forum will provide such an outlet ...

Why This Group Started

I’ve dedicated the past 20 years teaching, exploring and integrating in daily life what I believe to be the highest spiritual truth and centres firmly around a practice of self-enquiry.

My purpose in creating this group is to facilitate a space where anything, everything and nothing may arise.

The plan is to hold fortnightly meetings on a range of spiritual topics and delve into them from a practical perspective. No topic will be off limits. Feel free to message me here on Meetup with any questions.

Looking forward to connecting with you all ...

Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre

Join us as we continue our exploration of Ramana Maharshi’s core spiritual teachings - the source of all spiritual wisdom - and a must for any true seeker ... Following our last event, I’ll be sharing a (raw) spontaneous talk in true satang-style and we’ll discuss the finer point of Ramana’s words on self-enquiry. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any spiritual questions on your heart. Anything and everything may arise in this powerful space, it's totally unplanned and we’ll invariably find ourselves exploring such heavy spiritual topics, including ... - The Purpose of Existence - Doership, Destiny & Free Will - The Nature of Awareness & ‘I’ - Living in the Present - Observing Thoughts - Self-Inquiry & Meditation - The Challenge & Dichotomy of Spiritual Life Nowadays, we gain most of our spiritual knowledge from books and Youtube, however, there is no substitute for live, face-to-face talks and Q&A.
