React Native Talks #1 - Michel Weststrate (Mobx) is coming to TLV !!
React Native is one of the most commonly used technologies here at Wix Engineering. We love, admire and appreciate React Native, and because we’re that way about it, we believe we have some ideas, lessons learned and deep insights we’d be happy to share with you. In our #1 meetup we will be hosting Michel Weststrate, author of Mobx, who come to visit us from Netherlands to speak at ReactNext Conference, and our beloved developer Rotem Mizrachi Meidan. Join us for the first talk in our React Native meetups series! 🕑 Schedule: 18:00 - 18:30 - Gathering, drinks and food 🍕🍺 18:30 - 19:15 - Detox: A year (and a half) in. Building it, Testing with it / Rotem Mizrachi-Meidan 19:15 - 19:30 - Break 19:30 - 20:15 - State Management Beyond the Libraries / Michel Weststrate (Please notice: lectures will be in English) 📢 Talks Description // Detox: A year (and a half) in. Building it, Testing with it / Rotem Mizrachi-Meidan A year and half in, developing and using Detox in production taught us, at Wix, a lot. From designing its API to consuming it, testing real user scenarios to advanced mocking, we learned what makes sense when E2E testing an app and what doesn’t. In this talk, we’ll discuss how Detox works and what makes it deterministic, cover some advanced use cases and methodologies, go over new features and tease with the upcoming new ones. Bio: Mobile Infrastructure Team Leader and Detox lead dev at Wix.com https://twitter.com/rotemmiz // State Management Beyond the Libraries / Michel Weststrate Many battles have been fought over what is the best way to do state management. A gazillion of strategies and libraries are out there. Let’s take a step back for a moment... Why is state management relevant in the first place? What problems does it solve? For example, many debates are about mutability or immutability. I’ll suggest the more fundamental question to ask: identities or values? With these concepts in mind we will take a look at several libraries and frameworks and recognize the patterns. We will take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches. Finally, I’ll show that those concepts are even highly interchangeable with a PoC that will blow your mind. My goal, is to enable you to reason about state on a far more fundamental level. Resulting in better system design and earlier recognition of bugs. Bio: Full-stack lead developer and an author of MobX https://twitter.com/mweststrate
