Are pirates self-managing?

Details

The Reinventing Work movement is made up of local groups who share, learn and practice more human-centred ways of working. Our purpose (written in pencil) is to make work better, one place at a time.

★ This meetup is about self-management and being more pirate ★

Alex Barker, from Be More Pirate, will be talking about how it has evolved from a book into a movement, and now a method they call 'Professional Rule Breaking'.

The session will cover:

  • How the Pirate Code created trust, accountability, transparency and the earliest form of self management
  • Examples of rule breaking from organisations they've worked with
  • Why we should be replacing management with 'Mutiny'

As always, the event will be interactive with lots of opportunity to meet people, share ideas and practice new skills.

★ Online Zoom meeting ★

Guidance for joining online:

  • Please mute yourself, unless you are speaking :)
  • Turn your video camera on if you can
  • Call from a quiet place, which is not shared with other participants on the call
  • Call from your own internet-connected device, preferably a laptop or desktop computer rather than a phone or tablet. One person, one device
  • Have a stable broadband internet connection. Optimum bandwidth, i.e. internet speed on your side will be at least 10 Mbps download/upload. You can measure it using www.speedtest.net
  • We'll be using Zoom. If you haven't used it before, there's a widget to download to your device. Please make sure you've done this before the session starts.
