RocksDB Meetup 2020 at Rockset

Details
Let's kick 2020 off with another RocksDB community meetup, this time hosted by and at Rockset in San Mateo, CA. This event will be livestreamed via Zoom!
Would you like to talk at the event? We'd love to hear about new features or use cases for RocksDB, or about new academic research! Please email dhruba@rockset.com with your ideas.
We have two fantastic talks that describe RocksDB's use cases:
[6:30 PM] Stateful Stream Processing with Samza and RocksDB by Abhishek Shivanna and Ray Matharu, both from LinkedIn
[7:15PM] Characterizing, Modeling, and Benchmarking RocksDB Key-Value Workloads at Facebook by Zhichao Cao and Siying Dong, both from Facebook
Talk Abstracts
-
Stateful Stream Processing with Samza and RocksDB: Stateful stream processing powers thousands of applications at LinkedIn, ranging from Notifications, Abuse and Trust, Service Monitoring and Diagnostics, and many more. Samza is run as a managed stream processing service at LinkedIn and uses RocksDB to back its state storage abstractions. This talk details the systems and enhancements we have built to provide consistency, fault tolerance, availability, and operability for our managed stream processing service and the lessons learned in doing so.
-
Characterizing, Modeling, and Benchmarking RocksDB Key-Value Workloads at Facebook: In order to make debugging, performance tuning, and workload analysis easier for RocksDB developers and users, we developed a set of workload tracing, replaying, and analyzing tools for RocksDB. In this talk, the detailed characterization of three RocksDB production use cases at Facebook will be introduced. These characterizations reveal several interesting findings such as strong key-space locality, key/value size distributions, and special temporal patterns. Moreover, a new benchmark that follows the distribution models from the real-world workloads is developed in db_bench and it will be presented and discussed in this talk. This is part of a paper accepted into FAST 2020.
