David Simmons: Implementing SCTP to support WebRTC data channels in pure Rust
WebRTC provides a standard for establishing peer-to-peer network communication in the face of obstacles such as NATs and firewalls. Most implementations of WebRTC data channels rely on the same C library for implementing the Stream Control Transport Protocol (SCTP).
David is developing an SCTP implementation, and eventually a full WebRTC stack, in pure Rust. This would not only provide a second option for application developers, but expand the ecosystem of network building blocks implemented in a safe programming language. In this talk, David will discuss design choices, challenges, and testing strategies for this Rust project.
There will also be time for community introductions, discussing rust news, and collaborative project work. Light food and drink will be provided.
Accessibility: The front doors to Galvanize have wheelchair accessible buttons to open the doors. There's an elevator to get to the room. There isn't accessible parking, but there is a parking lot approximately 100 ft away from the venue. Galvanize is a half mile walk from Union Station if you're taking public transit. Reach out to J if you need more accessibility information.
