Functional Safety for Highly Automated Driving Systems

Wednesday, Dec 5th: 6:30-8:30pm
Infineon Technologies Corporation
640 North McCarthy Boulevard, Milpitas, CA

Functional Safety is one of the biggest challenges for highly automated driving systems, particularly driverless systems, as human operators may not be available to intervene in case of a critical system malfunction. The technology itself must therefore be reliable. For that reason "Fail Operational" Systems are critical to maintaining functionality in addition to the presence of "Fail-Safe" Systems. Fail Operational Systems are redundant and have independent hardware which can take over immediately. They minimize the risk for loss of service or faulty service through this redundancy and diversity at the system level.
