Service Design for Innovation and Start-ups: The Challenges and Opportunities

Details
We have opened up extra spaces today. If you register to attend on 6 May, you'll receive an email one hour prior to the event with the webinar link.
DESCRIPTION
Last year, the Service Design Network's journal 'Touchpoint' dedicated one issue to looking at how and where service design is present in innovation contexts, such as start-ups and corporate innovation initiatives. In this panel event, two contributors to that issue will share thoughts on the topic and participate in a panel and Q&A with our (virtual) attendees.
This event has been previously held in-person in Antwerp and New York City, and this third edition will be presented online.
SPEAKERS
Jesse Grimes is Touchpoint's Editor-in-Chief, and an independent Amsterdam-based service designer who frequently works with start-ups and innovation labs. Mike Pinder is a guest Editor of Touchpoint and Senior Innovation Consultant at Board of Innovation.
Jesse will approach this topic from two perspectives. He'll begin by presenting the values that service design thinking and techniques can deliver to start-ups and innovators, while also discussing some of the inherent challenges and conflicts. He'll then discuss how service designers can find opportunities working in this space. His contribution to this issue can be found here: https://www.service-design-network.org/community-knowledge/making-the-case-for-service-design-for-start-ups-and-innovation
Mike will share his experiences working with global Fortune 500 project teams and will locate Service Design as a discipline across the corporate innovation landscape. He will present insights into what intrapreneurial innovation funnels are inherently trying to achieve in terms of ‘knowing’ across entire projects whilst critically-presenting the role service design can optimally play. His article can be found here: https://www.service-design-network.org/touchpoint/vol-11-no1-service-design-for-innovation-and-start-ups/applying-service-design-while-innovating-like-a-start-up
