What we're about
Welcome!
Welcome to the Hau`oli Strummers ukulele club of San Diego. Hau’oli is Hawaiian for happy and that’s what we are. We are also a great community of uke players who get together to strum, sing, learn, teach, share, and most of all, have fun. We welcome anyone and everyone to join us.
Skill Level
We welcome everyone at all skill levels from the newest uke noobs to total uke stars. If you’ve never strummed or sung a note in your life or even if you are just shy, our club is a great place to be. The strum along format makes it easy to be as anonymous as you like while you’re learning and you’ll never be thrust into the spotlight when that isn’t your desire. If being in the spotlight is something you seek, there are plenty of opportunities to do just that.
Music
We play a wide variety of music including Rock, Country, Standards, 23 Skidoo, Hawaiian and more. Over the years we have compiled a great songbook containing all the songs we play at the meetings. Songbooks are available as a free PDF and hard copies are available for sale or loan at the meetings.
When
Our main meetings are on Tuesday nights starting at 6:30 and ending about 8:30. We have all kinds of other events too. Check the event announcements on the Home page for more information on all our events. Come check out a meeting it's really fun.
Questions or Comments?
There is more information in the "Pages" section of our Meetup site. You can also contact us by joining the Meetup group, sending a message, posting on the group message board or better yet - come to a meeting, we'll chat and have some fun.
Hope to see you soon! Mahalo!
Upcoming events (4+)
Every Second Monday at Mid-City!
We host a jam with the opportunity to lead songs, try different instruments but mostly have a great time. Step up to the mic with your voice and/or chosen instrumaent, and lead us all in one of the songs from our song set. We'll all play along and hold down the beat. Feel free to bring your uke, guitar, banjo, rhythm instrument... a piano and cajon are available to play, too. If you'd like to lead a song we don't have, please have your chart ready as a Google Doc and send Cadence a message at least 7 days before the meetup.
Like all Mid-City Community Music jams, it's about community, and everybody playing along. Feel free to stay in your seat or try something new! There is a $5 recommended donation.
Songs are projected on a screen at the front of the room. Here is a link to our 2nd Monday Song Set: 2 Mon Songs

We'll now and for the foreseeable future be meeting at the Pacific Beach Library on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month. On all other Thursdays please come join us at Vacation Island. All meetings are from 3 to 5pm or so. We'll be doing a sing-a-long much like the other Strummers events. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged.
Directions to the PB Library: at 4275 Cass St., San Diego, CA 92109. Bring a music stand & books. (Chairs are provided).
Directions to Vacation Island: Head west into Paradise Point off of Ingraham St. and take the immediate left. Head south and stay left parallel to Ingraham Street to near the next bridge. It winds to the right just before the water. We'll be somewhere in that area. (Look for the crazy ukulele players) Bring a chair, a music stand, the books, a fleece and/or some kind of warm jacket as it can get breezy, your uke and a smile! If it's cold we'll have a fire!
