Update: Wow! Big turn out for a local hike (54 YES on 1/7). Please don't forget to change your RSVP if you change your mind. And don't be intimidated by the large size. I have yet to have over 25 people on a hike (but, who knows, this may be a first time).

This hike visits many of the points in Trip 1 of Geologic Trips: SF and Bay Area. Here's a rough map of the hike: https://goo.gl/maps/aUaa

We'll see interbedded shale and sandstones of the San Bruno Mountain terrane at the Cliff House and Sutro Baths, take a stroll along the wonderful cliffs of Lands End, stop for an early lunch (?) at China Beach, and see a landslide near the Palace of the Legion of Honor that was caused by soft clay in the City College melange.

Our pace will be moderate to leisurely, with plenty of stops to look at the geology. No one is left behind. We seem to average around 2MPH (including stops), so the hike should take around three hours.

Kids are welcome. No dogs.

There's no RSVP limit, but we've been averaging 15-25 folks. Please remember to change your RSVP if you change your plans.

Meet at Lands End Trailhead at the far end of the parking lot at the North side of Point Lobos Ave, just west of 48th St. There should be plenty of parking, and those on public transit can take the 38 Geary to "the end of the line" two blocks away (buses arrive at 9:23 and 9:27; I'll be on the 9:23--from Market and Montgomery at 8:43).

Please gather at 9:45 AM. We'll leave promptly at 10:00. If you get there late and can't find us, my cell number is five one oh, 495-7035 (please post advanced questions by email, not by phone).
