It's time to celebrate the holidays with some serious sketching. We'll start at Big Daddy's cavernous warehouse full of furniture and miscellaneous cool stuff, then head over to Arch Art Supplies for a holiday party with food, drink, and goody bag with sketching supplies. There will also be a 10% discount on everything at Arch during the party.
11:00 Meet at the Wisconsin Street Door of Big Daddy's. (Call or text Laurie at (415)[masked] if you can't find us.) There's plenty of space for us to spread out and sketch in the store, but they ask that we move out of the way if a customer seems to be interested in something you're sketching (everything in the store is for sale.)
1:00 If you want to walk down to Arch with other people, meet outside the Wisconsin Street door. Otherwise, we'll meet you at Arch whenever you get there. If you want to head over early, Arch opens at 11:00.
1:00 - 3:00 Eat, drink, share sketches and be merry at Arch Art Supplies, 10 Carolina Street, just north of 15th Street. There will be store discounts and goody bags.
- If you're planning on using watercolor, bring a waterbrush. Don't use any open water or ink containers that could spill and get paint on things in the store.
- Wear a warm jacket, hat and gloves. We'll be inside at Big Daddy's but the space is unheated and doors at each end are always open.
- Optional: Something to sit on. They are OK with us sitting on store chairs, so long as there isn't a customer looking to buy it, but a sketching stool will give you more options.
- Bring money in case you'd like to take advantage of the 10% discount from Arch to buy some new sketching supplies or Christmas gifts.
(There is no fee for the meetup this time.)
Transit: Catch the #19 bus from Civic Center BART or the 22 or 55 from 16th Street Mission station. Catch the 10 from the Caltrain station.
Car: Parking should be fairly easy to find. Arch has some parking set aside for customers but if that's full check along Hooper Street or cruise around Big Daddy's. Some streets have 4-hour parking spots.
Bicycle: It's a nice ride from Embarcadero BART station along the waterfront past the ballpark and down the wide waterfront promenades on both sides of the Mission Creek channel. Near Arch, there are good bicycle lanes along Division, Townsend, 7th, 8th, 16th and 17th Streets.
