Ableton User Group Meeting: Tips n Tricks

We are really excited to announce the June Ableton User Group Meeting!
The focus is on users sharing their own music production and performance Tips n Tricks with the group.

Lenny Kiser Ableton Trainer

Meeting Outline:
It's always interesting to see inside of fellow music producers and performers projects and learn how they make music. Everybody does things a little bit differently and it can be really helpful and insightful to see this. Seeing how someone else does something can open up new creative pathways into your own work. Through sharing an
d learning from each other we all grow as musicians, producers and individuals. This is core to the Ableton User Group.

For this meeting we want to see your tips and tricks. If you want to present a Tip or Trick with regards to music production or performance please prepare a 5 minute short explanation of a particular tip, trick or workflow you have found that works well for you.

Lenny Kiser will present the following:

Tip: How to get the project done:
Setting aside time to be creative and figuring out your own production workflow.
Tip: Sidechaining Tips for production and live performance
Trick: Using drum racks to create risers for performance

Example Ideas (Tips n Tricks):

  • Genre specific:
“This is how I make an electro bass sound”
  • Instrument or effect specific:
“This is how I use the beat repeat effect”
  • Music theory related:
“I have found that this chord progression works well in this scenario”
  • Arranging related:
“I use a lot of the same parts from my intro to create my outro”
  • Routing Related:
“I sub mix my drums like this and then use this compressor with these settings”
  • Mixing-Production related:
“I have found EQ’ing drums works well with boosting these frequencies ranges”

Now Email Lenny About Your Topic:
These are all just examples so pick your own topic and prepare a short 5-minute explanation to share with the group!
Please email me in advance to let me know what you would like to present on and I will build the schedule from there. Thank you!

Hi, everyone! Maybe you are interested in subtle or massive variation of your sounds from a single performance? Here is a demo session of the techniques I quickly tried to babble out at this meetup. Feel free to use components of the racks I created or save the racks as your own presets for use later. I could clean up this session better and make it easier to figure out or use better demo sounds, but if I wait for that day, it will never get shared ha! This set is just a jumping off point for your own use of the ideas within. Maybe it will inspire you in some way?

    Here's the download link:

And here are some drum videos I did using the scale and randomizer plug-in racks I made:

    A longer, sleepier demo/explanation haha:

Thanks, Lenny, for hosting this useful Live community Meetup!

Thanks for coming out to the meeting last night and making it so great! Thanks to Lenny Kiser, Harald Boyesen, Grant Buchowicz, McKay Garner and Ross E DiFuria for sharing. (To Kevin Friedrichsen, thank you for being ready to share.) And special thanks to those of you who asked questions. I was amazed at how fast it is to came up with various solutions by group brainstorming! Last but not least, thank you all for filling out our survey so our next meeting will be even better!
