  • Holiday Pot Luck

Join your SPS family and friends for our annual Holiday Party Potluck Dinner and Awards Banquet! There will be prizes for top point earners from competitions throughout the year and our Member's Choice competition!

SPS will supply meat trays, a tasty ham, soft drinks, water, and coffee. We'll look forward to you bringing along a favorite dish, salad, side, or dessert to share. Note that we do not have cooking facilities but we can plug in your crock-pot or warming tray. Please be sure items that are supposed to be warm are pre-heated and frozen items are completely defrosted. 6 - Warming trays will be provided so bring any side items that need to be be kept hot in smaller containers ( if not in a Crock Port)  so they can be set inside the warming tray containing 1 " of water.

Be sure to RSVP if you're coming so that we have an accurate idea of the number of folks to expect.

    Pop Up Show

In addition to our annual December pot luck dinner and the Member's Choice competition, SPS will be sponsoring our second SPS Member's Pop-Up show.

What is a Pop-Up Show?  It's a gallery wall of member's printed images that will go up for the evening and come down when the party is over. It's a way for all of us to share our images and get conversations going about photography. It's a fun and simple. Please join us and participate!

    Who can participate?

    • All paid members.

How many images can I bring?

    • Up to 5 images per member.

How are the photos hung on the wall?

    • We will have painter's tape for you to use which does not damage the walls or the photos and is easily removed.

    What are the Rules?

    • Black and white or color printed images no larger than 11" by 14". Feel free to bring smaller images such as 5 by 7 and snap shot sizes. No need for fancy printing; try Walgreen's or CVS for quick, easy and cheap printing.

    • Write your name in pencil on the back of each image or if you want to put your name on the front, please do.

    • Do not mat your photo.

    • Please bring images NOT used in prior SPS competitions.

    • Using an image in the pop-up show does not make it ineligible for future SPS competitions.

    • This is a "G" rated show!

    • Vintage images are welcome. Have some fabulous old shots that you want to share? Bring them, as long as you haven't used them in an SPS competition!

    • Have a triptych or photo series that you want to show? Bring it!

    Member Competition

The Member’s Choice Competition should represent your best work of the year. Here are the rules and procedures:

    • Only paid members are eligible to enter or vote. If you are not a paid member, this is a great time to join! Membership now covers you through 2017 at $30 for individuals and $40 for families.

    • The only category for December is digital projection – no prints.

    • ONE ENTRY PER MEMBER.

    • There is no theme – any subject matter is welcome. (Don’t forget this is a family event.)

    • Your entry may have been seen in competition earlier in the year. It doesn’t matter if you’ve entered it, or if it placed or not. This is your best work of the year.

    • Email your entry to [address removed] . Be certain that the subject of the e-mail contains the word "COMPETITION."

    • Make sure your file is in jpeg format and submitted as an attachment, not an embedded image. Be sure to include your name and the title of your image in the body of the e-mail. Also, please make sure that your image does not have your logo or other watermark on it.

    • Due to the large volume of entries for this competition, the 9:00 p.m. Thursday night (12/7) deadline will be strictly adhered to.

For more detailed information on preparing and submitting a digital submission, go to Complete Competition Rules and scroll down to Rules Applicable to Digital Projection Entries.

Images will be projected throughout the meeting. We will lower the lights at some point to give everyone a look in their full glory. Members will receive a ballot with their name tag. Revised 11/23, a single cash prize of $50 will be given.  With the exception of last year, this keeps with previous years.

    Annual Awards

We’ll also recognize the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each competition category for 2016, based on the points system outlined in our competition rules. We’ll also be awarding our Photographer of the Year with a $100 cash prize. The Photographer of the Year is the photographer with the highest overall point total.
